About Us

Superior Oboe Reeds was established in 2022 by Dr. Sheri Mattson after a long career of teaching beginning, intermediate and advanced oboists.  She has been making American style reeds for other oboists for 25+ years.

Sheri taught undergraduate and graduate level oboe and bassoon lessons at universities in the US as a full time professor for 20 years and as an adjunct oboe and bassoon instructor for an additional number of years.  In addition to teaching on the collegiate level, she has taught beginning and intermediate level students of all ages for more than 30 years and online oboe and bassoon lessons for more than 10 years.  She is also a clinician who has worked with woodwind students in the Midwestern region as well as internationally in Ukraine, Barbados, and Jamaica.  

She is an active soloist and chamber musician, most recently with the Lake Cottage Duo, who released a recording with Centaur Records entitled “Dutch Music for Oboe and Piano” in 2012.  Their most recent performances include recitals on “Live from the Chazen” at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and international performances in Belgium, Barbados, Sweden and Finland.  She has also performed in many well respected large ensembles including the South Dakota Symphony, the Gainesville (Florida) Symphony, and the Duluth-Superior (Minnesota) Symphony.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree in music and physics from the University of Wisconsin – Superior, A Master of Music in oboe performance from Arizona State University and the Doctor of Music in oboe performance from Florida State University.  Her oboe teachers include Anne Leek, Anita Nashlund, Eric Ohlsson, Roger Rehm, Martin Schuring, and Daniel Stolper.
